The cloud mining platform NiceHash announced that in December it will complete a program to reimburse users of bitcoins stolen during hacking in 2017.
In December 2017, an attacker withdrew more than 4,640 BTC from user wallets on the platform, the price of the cryptocurrency at that time was about $ 12,000.
On February 2, 2018, the Slovenian-based service launched a loss repayment program, charging a portion of coins to victims of hacking on a monthly basis.
By the end of August of the same year, NiceHash announced that it had already returned 60% of the lost assets to customers.
In December 2019, the platform suspended the program.
NiceHash noted that the refund is made from the platform’s fees, reducing its revenue. The decision to put the program on pause in the company was explained by the need to maintain sufficient cash flow to continue working.
At that time, the refund rate was 82%. The time frame for resuming the accrual of assets in NiceHash has not been indicated.
Now the platform has announced that it will reimburse 100% of the bitcoins lost by users on December 16, 2020.
Recall that last year, the FBI accused NiceHash founder Matyash Shkoryants of extortion and fraud in the banking sector.
